Where to start with marketing for your small business

You started your business because you had an idea, a skill or something you wanted to offer. Then came all the other decisions. Building a website, choosing what to post, setting your prices and finding your first customers.
Suddenly, you’re spending more time figuring out how to market your business than doing the work you started it for.
If that sounds familiar, I understand. Building The Marketing Filter has meant making decisions for my own business, too. Having marketing experience doesn’t mean there are no questions when it’s your own name, time and ambition behind the idea.
You don’t have to do everything at once
It’s easy to feel that your business needs to be everywhere. You see someone posting daily, someone launching a newsletter and someone else running ads. You start wondering whether you should be doing all of it.
Before adding more to your list, it helps to answer a few questions:
Who are you trying to reach?
What problem does your offer help them solve?
Why would they choose you?
What do they need to know before buying or booking?
These answers give your marketing direction. They help you decide what to say, where to focus and what can wait.
A small business marketing strategy should make your work easier
A strategy doesn’t need to feel like another complicated project. It should help you make everyday decisions with more confidence.
That might mean choosing one main service to promote, explaining your offer more clearly or making it easier for interested people to contact you. The right next step depends on where your business is now and how much time and budget you realistically have.
You can still have big ambitions. You simply don’t need to act on all of them this week.
Sometimes you need someone to think it through with
Perhaps you have plenty of ideas but struggle to choose between them. Or you’ve been trying different things and aren’t sure what’s worth continuing.
Through my 1:1 marketing consultations and strategy sessions, we can look at what feels unclear, explore your options and agree on practical next steps. You don’t need a polished plan before we speak. Bring your questions, your ideas and the parts you feel stuck on.
Book a 1:1 session with me and let’s work out what deserves your attention next.
